Blog Inspiration - The Anthropologist

What is Inspiration? This is the question that blog The Anthropologist asks.
From the people of the USA retail brand, Anthropologie, this is an "online space for inspiring work and inspiring individuals".
At present, the blog is highlighting the work of Photographer David Eustance, photographer/film-maker Andrew Zuckerman and New Zealand Director Jane Campion.
From Campion, there is a link to her lovely virtual production scrapbook for her film Bright Star, which includes notes about production, art department drawings, location photos and other details. Check out the Anthropologist blog here and Jane Campion's virtual production scrapbook here.

292 - Timber Framing

We had a hold up on-site last week so we are a little behind. However, it is all back on track this week and the timber framing has started.
Euan should have the lower storey done by the end of this week and hopefully we'll see the second storey and roof structure up next week. Woohoo!

I was talking with a friend in the weekend and we got on to the subject where one would stay in NYC. I immediately said Ace Hotel. It has popped up on my radar numerous times and it looks like an interesting place to stay.
In the heart of Manhattan, Ace Hotel has 262 rooms and they say that they have the best rates in town  (which is saying something for New York!). Designed by Roman and Williams, there is a range of room options - Bunk, Cheap, Small, Medium, Large and Loft - something for everyone. Described as 'Funky Grandpa', Ace hotel definitely has that vintage and industrial appeal with a slight rock'n'roll edge to the place.

292 - Weekend Work

Filled up the skip - Dad and brother jumping on it to make sure it is well and truly compact.
Removing windows for cleaning, fixing and easing the sashes.
Dad - the master painter with a steady hand.
Eased the sashes, primed the the windows/facings and one coat of paint. The paint colour looks terrible next to the white. Not for much longer...
Removed all existing electrical wiring for recycling.

We had a productive day this weekend. We filled the skip second time round completely to the top with the last of the demolition rubbish. There was a bit of jumping action to settle it all down.
My brother dropped by and helped out for a couple of hours - which was great. "Many hands make light work"...
We also removed all the electrical wiring for recycling and create a clean slate for the Electrician when he comes on board.
We are now prepping the windows to get ready for painting. It is a fiddly job and old timber windows requires patience!! We've done one coat of the final paint colour after the priming -  the colour doesn't look too good next to the existing white exterior colour right now, so we'll just bear with it until we start the exterior painting. Not too far off, I hope.

Product - Tomahawk Campfire Table

I have just ordered this great coffee table for one of my clients. It is called 'Campfire Table' and it is easy to see why.
Inspired by the timeless ritual of human gathering around the fire, Tomek Archer, from Tomahawk Studios, designed this table out of a single length of timber, some clever well-placed connections and a glass top. It is available in ash, walnut, rock maple, black, red and white.
Photographs from Tomahawk website.

Update: After this posting this post yesterday, I received a lovely  email from Tomek. What a nice guy! I had made a typo so the link to his website wasn't working. All corrected now.

292 - More Concrete

Concrete was poured into the block work yesterday, making it ready for timber framing to go up. Yay - soon we'll see some three dimensional and vertical action happening!

Inspiration - High Road House, London

High Road House, Chiswick, West London

Restaurant

Shaker inspired bedrooms - 14 rooms in total

Downstairs bar.
I have been doing some visual research and I came across this cool project.
This is High Road House in Chiswick, West London. Part of the Soho House brand, Ilse Crawford from Studio Ilse was the designer for this hotel and private memebers club. As usual, she pulls off her traditional and modern combinations, homely and snug but still commercial enough, clever lighting, muted and bold colour pairings and cool furniture pieces. It just always seems to work.
Note to self - must visit when in London.
