New Work - Kitchen

I got a lovely email today with images of a job I worked on about 2 years ago alongside Tse Wallace Architects. I introduced the clients and architects to each other and the job was a sizeable extension to an existing house in Masterton. I later came on board as the interior designer and designed the kitchen.

While there were a few trips over the hill to Masterton for the occasional meeting, the clients did most of the project management themselves. So it was great to see the finished product today in my email box.

292 - Update

The kitchen all ready and waiting for the new joinery's arrival on Monday.

Trims and architraves are done and ready for painting.

Me (posing really badly) looking extremely unsexy and soppy wet but still rather pleased with myself, re: the full skip behind.

It's a super-cold and super-wet weekend in Wellington, however that cannot stop us from the work we need to do around 292. There was two waist high piles of building rubbish outside that needed to be cleared and that job was mine. Dad needed to continue prepping the interior windows ready for the painters coming soon - yes, he remained inside and was very dry...

292 is slowly coming together. The trims and architraves have been completed in the downstairs apartment. The kitchen and bathroom joinery will arrive on Monday for installation. Euan the builder will be spending a week of doing all those small jobs and details that need to be done before the painting team arrives the following week to blitz the place into colour...well, grey and white. Looking forward to it.

Old World Elegance from The Sartorialist

Here is some old world European elegance from photographer Scott Schuman and his blog, The Sartorialist.
This is Degand, a menswear retail store on 415 Avenue Louise, Brussels. I would love to visit this store - it has that classic understated luxury that feels like a grand home rather than a retail store. Its beautiful details like the parquet flooring, Turkish rugs, timber fittings and crystal chandelier make the merchandise seem very special. You can smell the leather and know that the service will be impeccable - a true sartorial experience. This interior is timeless.

I visisted Backhouse Interiors yesterday to explore the Kartell Ghost chairs for a client of mine. These polycarbonate chairs have been around since 2002 and, according to Backhouse, still remain very popular. A client of mine is keen for a set of four Victorias and two Louis in the Crystal finish for her dining table. She lives in a modern house with lots of glass looking out to great views - so the chairs would fit in very well.
So while one is at Backhouse for a job, it is always a good time to update themselves with a general perve and see what is the latest. And that I did.
I checked out the ever classic Componibili range. Well known in the round style, I was fancying the Componibili Square. Hmmm, possible future bedside table for me...? Maybe.

New Work - Store Front Gate Installed

There would be a padlock to close the gate together - you can see Anne (my client) behind the glass doors on her way to lock up.

I had a late meeting this evening so I went via Cuba Street to see Minerva's new store front gate in use as it would be at the end of the working day. I have seen the gate since it's installation but hadn't had the chance to see it fully closed. The steel guys did a great job producing this gate and the client is happy with how it turned out. It has been getting many positive comments from customers too.

292 - Gibstopping

The grey board is the standard Gibboard and the blue board is known as 'BraceLine' for extra strengthening.

From the bedroom looking towards the hallway and wardrobe - this room has been gibstopped.

The stilts, worn by Lyle the plasterer to do the ceilings, are taking a break.

Lyle the plasterer started late last week and he's working with a venegence! I visted onsite on Friday and the gibstopping was well underway. It is exciting to see all the rooms fully formed now and I had the natural reaction thinking it was all looking rather small! This is usually the case when it has all been open framing for weeks then all of a sudden it is closed in.
I went to check on the kitchen and bathroom joinery today - a few tweaks are needed to be made and it will be delivered onsite on Monday next week for installation.

I visited Thonet today to work on some  furniture ideas for a job of mine. While I was there, Russell gave me an update on all the new styles coming soon, one of which is Emeco's collaboration with Coca Cola and their new release of 111 Navy Chair.
Due in store from June, the 111 Navy chair is made from 111 recycled Coca Cola bottles and available in 6 great colours, including Coca Cola Red (of course). It is plastic so great for the outdoors and won't be cold on our bottoms(!) like the aluminium ones have been known to be.
This is such a fantastic and sustainable idea - read more the process and the collaboration between Emeco and Coca Cola here . I look forward to seeing it next month in its recycled plastic flesh.

292 - Gib

I visited 292 yesterday to check out the Gib board installation.

Euan was working on the ceiling of the lower apartment, which for noise control requires two layers of Noiseline Gib. The walls will follow and hopefully we'll have the presence of the plasterer next week.
