My brother in law, Neil Pardington is having his exhibition opening this Thursday 5th November at the Christchurch Art Gallery. His works for 'The Vault' are taken behind the scenes of institutions like museums and galleries. Christian Liaigre - a French architect and furniture designer. I've admired his work for some time. He has that classy mix of understated luxury (and impressive clients with impressive budgets).

I have been working on some kids bedrooms of late. Here are some of the cool inspiration images that I found.
It is a popular thought that kid's bedroom need to painted in a bright colour. The best examples of kid's bedroom that I have found have neutrals and soft colour walls - this lets the cool colourful toys, objects, art, bedlinen and furniture be the focus. Also it means that you don't need to re-paint when the kids have outgrown a colour - easy!

I like the simplicity of this style. It is a great and speedy option for a night out or keeping the hair away from face during office time. Not too fancy not too complicated.

Inspiration - Bathrooms

I am working on a bathroom and ensuite for a new soon-to-be-built modern house. I found these two images as an inspiration and a starting point. The top image is ideal as it has great storage - which my clients will be needing. The use of black and white is effective, along with the neutral grey on the floors.
I like the undermounted basin in the top bathroom - very modern and simple.

As an Interior Designer, I have access to many products which I can sell to my clients at better prices than retail. One product that I particularly like is Klippan.

New Work - Re-upholstering

One of my jobs had a re-upholstery furniture delivery this afternoon so I quickly took these photos to show the great transformation!
Before, these chairs were in a hessian-like ink blue fabric and the seat cushions were too long, therefore sticking out at the front and uncomfortable under the knees. A bold graphic fabric, a 're-feather' to the insides and a re-shape to the seat cushion has resulted in looking brand new once again. They look amazing.
This particular job has had other great re-upholstered furniture and general interior work done - I will take more photos once it is completed.

Here is another working collaboration with Minty Architecture. A new garage with a studio above was designed and built on the street in front of the existing house (see top photo).

This house is located on a street that has a reputation for brightly coloured houses and the clients wanted to carry on the tradition. One half the client duo wanted to keep the overall exterior scheme simple and the other half loved purple.

So this scheme was pulled together - we went bold on the weatherboards and doors and we balanced this with white trims and neutral greys. It has a slight Scandi feel about it. We put the much loved purple on the front door of the main house and on the letterbox.

The colours has been getting great response on the street, the clients are delighted and even our star builder, Euan likes it. Sweet.

Inspiration - Library Ladders

I have been doing some research on Library ladders - especially sliding ones.
One of my clients, who is a writer and has many, many books, wants some very large bookshelves to store them all. We need a ladder to access the top shelf which is not far off 4m high. I had previously found a German ready-made timber and metal one, however, that went out the window when we heard the price - a cool $10,000.
I have come across all kinds - who would have thought there were so many. Bulky, vintage, modern, industrial, timber, steel and so on. The above images are a few that I have found.
